The actual physical part of getting ready, going on foot, traveling were your ear and eye might lead you, being out there and experiencing the world in a different way. It definitely made me a better listener. But we want specifics…..My favorite feeling was discovering a shot for trek 2 were it flashed in my head first and I recreated it with the camera and it turned out just how I envision it, to my eyes it was perfect, it was something were I was like that’s it, there is no more I can do with that. It was my silent clip #1 in trek 2.

Trek Assessment #3

One of the surprises I recently had was the fact that some of the footage which I thought was not usable turned up to be possibly my main little gem for these treks. It was footage that I had taken only because I thought it looked cool, which one of my main rules are never use something “just” because it looks cool, there has to be more to it, it has to do something more then looks. I didn’t realize it then but it did actually fit with my work, I felt really good afterwards. I kind of had an idea but it is crazy how sometimes you go through so much stuff just for something good that may be only a couple of minutes out of hours of sound recordings. The second time and the third time you do have a clearer objective on knowing what may be good to capture and what might be not worth the time. I didn’t realize how good what I thought was a bad recording of what was in a parking lot at Bayshore mall, which I think it was some kind of machinery if you reverse the clip and slow it down, it creates a nice droning effect for a background noise.

Trek Assessment #2

Describe, with details, two situations during Trek 01 and/or 02 in which you felt unusually peaceful, at ease, or contemplative.

I know this may sound cliché but when I eventually walked to lake drive During trek 1 there was a little park bench on top of the hill kind of where you could walk down to the lake and the sand, but just listening to the sound of the lake and the wind while sitting down was very calming. Also the fact that I had been walking for almost two hours I think had a lot to do with it. Seeing a family playing and two young lovebirds walking down the ramp to the beach made everything seem all right, I was happy to be there. When I was walking during trek 2 I saw some skaters doing tricks by a building downtown, even though I knew I was getting distracted from what I was trying to do but the curiosity led me to follow them which then led me to the perfect place where I was able get some really cool clips and pictures, since the area was kind of hidden I’m not sure if I would’ve found it on my own. In the end I was very pleased that I veered off and let my curiosity take over.

Trek Assessment #1

Describe two situations that aggravated, bothered, shocked or otherwise stressed you during Trek 01 or 02.

One situation that aggravated me was that when I was trying to get a sound for a long enough time I seemed to always get interrupted by a loud passing car or big gust of wind, and it was frustrating a bit. At first the people looking at me was more annoying then anything, they had this “what is this person doing look on their faces” but after a while you get used to it. For trek 2 there wasn’t much that bothered me only except that it started to get cold, and sometimes it made me feel a little bit rushed. I enjoyed trek 2 very much.
